The Pittsburgh Pirates used the sixth pick of the 1985 Amateur Baseball Draft to select Barry Bonds out of Arizona State University. He spent just 115 games in the minors before becoming Pittsburgh's starting leftfielder in 1986. Bonds' breakout year came in 1990 when hit 33 homeruns, 114 RBI and had 52 stolen bases. He was selected to his first All-Star Game and won the National League MVP Award. Two years later (1992), Bonds won his second MVP Award after hitting 33 home runs, 103 RBI, 39 stolen bases and leading the majors in walks (127), on-base percentage (.456) and slugging percentage (.624). In 1993, Bonds joined the San Francisco Giants and continued to destroy National League Pitchers. In his first year with the Giants, Bonds led the NL with 46 home runs, 123 RBI and posted a .336 batting average. He won his third MVP Award in four years. Over the next seven seasons, Bonds was the most dominating hitter in National League, averaging 39 home runs and 104 RBI a season. In 2001, Bonds set a new single season home run record when he hit an incredible, 73 round-trippers and won his fourth NL MVP Award. From 2001-2004, Bonds was the most feared hitter in the history of baseball. During that time span, he hit 209 home runs, 544 RBI and maintained a .350 batting average. He was able to do this despite setting the record for the most walks in a single season three times (177 walks in 2001, 198 walks in 2002 and 232 walks in 2004). He also won four consecutive MVP Awards and two batting titles during that time. After 22 seasons of major league baseball, Bonds retired in 2007. He played in 14 MLB All-Star Games, won eight Gold Glove Awards, was a 12x Silver Slugger Award winner is the only pro athlete to win seven Most Valuable Player Awards.
