Derek Jeter Autographed Baseballs, Jerseys, Bats and Sports Memorabilia Shopping Guide

Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players in the history of baseball. He was born in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, which is about 23 miles northwest of Elysian Fields (The site of the first organized baseball game) in Hoboken, New Jersey. His family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan before he started grade school. Derek Jeter started playing tee-ball when he was just five years old and developed his baseball skills with the Eastwood, Oakwood and Westwood Little Leagues. He entered Kalamazoo High School in 1989 and made the team as a freshman. By the time he graduated in 1992, Derek Jeter was one of the greatest high school players in the country. On June 1, 1992, the New York Yankees used the sixth overall pick of the Amateur Baseball Draft to take Jeter. On June 27, 1992 (one day after his 18th birthday), he signed his first MLB contract and officially became a member of the New York Yankees.

During his four seasons on minor league baseball, Jeter was named the 1993 South Atlantic League Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and was recognized as the 1994 Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America, The Sporting News, USA Today Baseball Weekly and Topps/NAPBL. He made his MLB Debut on May 29, 1995 and collected his first two career hits on May 30th. Jeter returned to AAA just a few weeks later and finished the rest of the 1995 season in the minors. The following year Jater was invited to the Yankees Spring Training Camp. He won the starting shortstop position right off the bat. He collected 183 hits and posted a .314 batting average to win the 1996 American League Rookie of the Year Award and led the Yankees to their first World Series Championship in 18 years.

In 1998, Jeter was selected to his first career MLB All-Star Game and won his second World Series Championship. The Yankees won two more World Series Championships in 1999 and 2000, capping an incredible five-year run that included four World Series Titles. After that incredible start to his career, Derek Jeter went on to become one of the most decorated players in the history of major league baseball. He spent his entire 20 year career with the Yankees and played in 13 All-Star Games. He won five Gold Glove Awards and four Silver Sluggers. He batted .300 or better in 12 different seasons and had eight 200-hits seasons. He became the Yankees team captain in 2003 and won his fifth World Series Title in 2009. At the time of this post, Derek Jeter is in 8th place on MLB's All-Time Career Hits List with 3,385. He is poised to pass Carl Yastrzemski (3,419), Honus Wagner (3,430) and Cap Anson (3,435) by the end of the season to retire with the sixth most hits in MLB history. Derek Jeter will become eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 and is expected to be part of the Class of 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees.
