For the third time in school history, the Florida State Seminoles are champions of college football. Led by Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, the Seminoles steamrolled their opponents on their way to a 13-0 regular season record en route to the 2014 BCS Championship Game. They Seminoles faced the SEC Champion, Auburn Tigers in the Championship Game and trailed by 18 points (21-3) with under two minutes to go in the first half. A gutsy fake punt on fourth down picked up the first down, kept the drive alive and brought new life into a dead FSU offense. The Seminoles went on to score a touchdown on the drive, cutting the score to 21-10. Still trailing 21-13 after three quarters, Jameis Winston drove his team down the field for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-20 early in the fourth. Auburn kicked a field goal with just over four minutes to go, but the The Seminoles responded by returning the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to take a 27-24 lead. Auburn responded by scoring on a 37 yard touchdown run by Tre Mason with just 1:19 left in the game. With the game almost out of reach, Jameis Winston put the team on his shoulders, drove them down the field and hit Kelvin Benjamin with a two-yard game-winning touchdown pass with just 13 seconds to go. Jameis Winston was the games Most Valuable Player.
The 2014 Florida State Seminoles are among the greatest college football teams in history. The set a college football record of 723 points (52 points per game) and held their opponents to just 139 (10.7 ppg). Winston became the first player in history to win the Heisman Trophy during his freshman year and win a National Championship.
