Tim Beckham Quitely Makes MLB Debut

After five seasons of minor league baseball, Tim Beckham made his MLB debut on Thursday, September 19, 2013. Beckham entered the game in the bottom of the 8th inning as a pinch-hitter for outfielder, Matt Joyce. He singled to right field, collecting his first major league hit off of the Rangers' Tanner Scheppers. He took the field at shortstop for the ninth inning.

The Tampa Bay Rays selected Tim Beckham as the #1 Overall Pick of the 2008 MLB Draft. He drafted directly out of Griffin High School (Griffin, GA) and expectations were outlandishly high. Beckham did not blast through the minors like Rays fans hoped he would. Instead, it was a five year journey that seem to go at a snails pace. I'm glad to see him get his chance in the majors. He's still only 23 years old.
