The Seattle Mariners discovered David Ortiz when he was a 17 year old high school kid playing baseball in the Dominican Republic. He played two years in the Mariner's minor league system and was traded to the Minnesota Twins in 1996. He made his MLB debut in 1997, but was never used as an every day player until 2002. In 2003, "Big Papi" signed with the Boston Red Sox and became one of the best hitters in baseball. His first year in Boston, Ortiz hit 30 homeruns, 101 RBI and finished in fifth place for the American League MVP Award. In 2004, Ortiz became a legend. With his trailing the New York Yankees 0-3 during the 2004 ALCS, Ortiz put the team on his back and had dramatic hit after dramatic hit as the Red Sox became the first team in MLB history to overcome a three game deficit. Ortiz was named ALCS MVP as the Red Sox moved on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals for their first World Series Championship in over 80 years. Ortiz has been on a tear ever since. He has played 13 seasons with the Red Sox and has led them to a total of three World Series Championships (2004, 2007 and 2013). He has appeared in nine MLB All-Star Games and holds just about every DH hitting record you can think of. On September 12, 2015, Ortiz became the 27th player in history to hit 500 career homeruns. He is certainly one of the greatest players to ever wear the Red Sox uniform.
In late September, 2015, David Ortiz will be participating in a private autograph signing with Sportsmemorabilia.com. This is a unique opportunity to purchase one of the first items inscribed "500 Homeruns."
