Joe Flacco threw three touchdown passes in the first half as the Baltimore Ravens jumped out to a 21 - 6 halftime lead over the San Francisco 49ers. The game looked like it was all but over when Ravens kick returner, Jacoby Jones set a new Super Bowl record by taking the second half kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown, which give the Ravens a 28 - 6 advantage. Colin Kaepernick and 49ers staged a furious rally as they outscored the Ravens 24 - 6 until just under two minutes left in the game.
They key play came with just 1:50 left in the game and the Niners were down (34 - 29) had the ball 4th and goal from the Baltimore five - yard line. Colin Kaepernick's pass to Michael Crabtree in the endzone was incomplete. 49ers coach, Jim Harbaugh was visibly upset as there appeared to be defensive holding on the play, but a flag was not thrown.
The Ravens got the ball back and ran the clock down to just four seconds while their punter took a safety on fourth down. The game ended as 49ers were tackled during the ensuing return. The Ravens won by a final score was 34 - 31.
Joe Flacco who was 22/33 for 287 yards and three touchdown passes was named Super Bowl XLVII MVP.
