The Boston Red Sox used the 15th pick of the 1971 Amateur Baseball Draft to select Jim Rice out of T.L. Hanna High School (Anderson, South Carolina). Rice demolished minor league pitchers and made his MLB debut in 1974. He made his first MLB All-Star Game in 1977. In 1978, Rice had one of the most dominating seasons in MLB history. He led the majors in home runs (46), RBI (139), triples (15), hits (213), at-bats (677), games played (163), slugging percentage (.600) and total bases (406) on his way to winning the 1978 AL MVP Award. During his 16 seasons with the Red Sox, Rice played in eight All-Star Games, won three AL home run titles and had eight 100 RBI seasons. He is widely considered one of the greatest hitters of the 1970's and 1980's.
