The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used the 17th overall pick of the 1978 NFL Draft to draft Doug Williams out of Grambling State University. He became the team's starting quarterback during his rookie season. In 1979, Williams led the Bucs to it's first winning season (10-6) and it's first NFC North Division title. With Williams under center, the 1979 Bucs advanced all the way to the NFC Championship Game. He stayed with the Bucs through the 1986 season before joining the Oklahoma Outlaws of the USFL. Williams returned to the NFL in 1986 as a backup QB for the Washington Redskins. In 1987, Williams became the Redskins starter near the end of the season. He led the Skins to playoff victories over the Bears and Vikings before lighting up the Denver Broncos with 340 passing yards and four touchdown passes in Super Bowl XXII en route to a 42-10 victory. William's performance in SB XXII is one of the most memorable performances in Super Bowl history.
