Is the NFL coming back to Los Angeles? Deal for New Stadium has been approved.

With almost 13 million people, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana area is second only to New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island (19 million people) among the largest metropolitan areas in the United States.  The area is home to two NBA teams, two MLB teams, an NHL team and two major college football teams.

As many strides that the game of football has made over the last 15-20 years, one of the biggest disappointments has got to be the inability to put an NFL team back in Los Angeles. The LA Rams started playing there in 1946 and while the LA Raiders started playing in 1982. Both teams left for greener pastures in 1994, leaving the nations second largest TV market without an NFL team for almost two decades.

On Friday, the City of Los Angeles took a huge step towards to bringing football back. Bloomberg Business Week issued a report stating the LA City Council has approved plans for a brand new $1 billion dollar stadium to be built right next to the Staples Center.

In February 2012 at the Pre-Super Bowl press conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the NFL would like to return to Los Angeles, if it can be done the right way. He indicated that expanding the NFL to 33 teams would not be ideal, so there would have to be two teams to keep it even at 34. This has opened speculation that when the NFL comes back to LA, they could actually get two teams or this could open the window for the league's first international team.

Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Homer Bailey Throws No-Hitter Against Pittsburgh Pirates

Last night, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher, Homer Bailey threw a 1-0 no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Homer dominated pirates hitters all night. 74 of his 115 pitches were strikes, which led to 10 strikeouts. The only Pirates to reach base were Clint Barnes and Andrew McCutchen. Barnes reached on a fielding error by Scott Rolen in the third, while McCutchen reached on a walk in the seventh. McCuthen was able to steal second base, but was later thrown out as he tried stealing third.

The Reds only run came from a sacrifice fly by Todd Frazier in the top of the 1st.

Homer's no-hitter is the seventh of the 2012 season, which ties the modern day MLB record. The 1990 and 1991 MLB seasons had seven no-hitters as well.

St. Petersburg Developer Darryl LeClair Reveals Much Anticipated Plans for New Tampa Bay Rays Stadium

After weeks of speculation, Darryl LeClair has released his plans for a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays. The proposed site is currently a vacant lot in the Carrillon area, which is located on the very north end of St. Petersburg. Check out the photos for the proposed stadium on BayNews9.

The formal proposal was made today at the St. Petersburg City Council meeting. Members of the Rays organization were reportedly in attendance, however the team has repeatedly stated that they will only consider a deal for a new stadium if they are allowed to explore options outside the city limits of St. Petersburg. Their lease agreement at Tropicana Field lasts through 2027.

David Freese is a real-life example of local boy does good. He grew up in St. Louis and has been a Cardinals fan his entire life. He was drafted by the Padres in 2006 and was traded to his Cardinals in 2008. Freese's backyard dreams came true in Game Six of the 2011 World Series. NFL Owners and Refs reach an agreement. Lockout is over.

After four pre-season games and three regular season games, the NFL Officials Lockout is finally over. Both sides have reached a new eight year labor agreement. Commissioner, Roger Goodell has lifted the lock out so that referees can get back to work immediately, starting with tonight's Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens game.

Technically, the new agreement is not yet official. The agreement still needs to be voted on, which will happen either Friday or Saturday, however the NFL certainly can not afford another episode like the Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks Monday Night Football Game that ended on a controversial call that was seen by millions of viewers and sparked an enormous amount of outrage from fans and commentators.

Are the 2012 Seattle Mariners the most memorable MLB team with a losing record?

I know their losing record doesn't exactly make headlines, but the 2012 Seattle Mariners will go down as one of the most memorable MLB teams that finished with a losing record. Usually, a team has to be pretty bad (like lose 100 games) to be remembered, but the Mariners weren't really that bad at all (over 70 wins), they were just part of the game's rarest accomplishments.

Remember these events?

Philip Humber Perfect Game April 21st - The Mariners were on the losing end of the 21st Perfect Game in MLB history. The Chicago White Sox won 4-0.

Kevin Millwood and Five Relief Pitchers Throw No-Hitter June 8th - Millwood through the first six innings, before Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen took over. The Mariners won 1-0 over the LA Dodgers.

Ichiro Suzuki Traded to the NY Yankees July 23rd - Just over a month of getting his 2,500th MLB hit, arguably the best player in Seattle Mariners history was traded to the New York Yankees. As of this post, Ichiro has 2,595 MLB hits. When you add his 1,278 career hits collected during nine seasons in Japan, that brings his hit total to 3,873. Only Ty Cobb and Pete Rose have more hits on any major league level.

Felix Hernandez Perfect Game August 15th - King Felix threw the 23rd perfect game in MLB history as the Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0. This is the first time that one team has been involved in two perfect games in one season.

Los Angeles Angels 20 Strikeouts Game September 25th - Zack Greinke strikes 13 Mariners in just five innings. The Angels bullpen strikes out another seven. This was the fourth time in MLB history that a team struck out 20 batters. Angels won 5-4.

So for better or for worse, the 2012 Seattle Mariners made plenty of history.

Zack Greinke and Los Angeles LA Angels Bullpen Combine Tie MLB Record of 20 Strikeouts

Last night, the Los Angeles LA Angels tied the Major League record of 20 strikeouts in a nine inning game in their 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners. They were led by Zack Greinke who had 13 strikeouts after just five innings, but was pulled due to a high pitch count.

Kerry Wood (Chicago Cubs) and Roger Clemens (twice with the Boston Red Sox) are the only pitchers in MLB history to have 20 strikeouts in a single nine inning game. The Angels are the first team to accomplish the feat using more than one pitcher.

Miguel Cabrera "This Close" to winning American League and MLB Triple Crown

With all the talk about the NFL's replacement referees, has anyone noticed that Miguel Cabrera is "this close" to winning the American League Triple Crown? With just six games left, he leads the American League in Batting Average (.331), RBI (133) and is tied with Josh Hamilton with 42 homeruns. His current pace would make him the first player in 45 years and 14th player in MLB history to win the NL or AL triple crown.

With that being said, he also has a very good chance of winning the MLB Triple Crown as well. His RBI and homerun totals are tops in all the majors. His .331 batting average is currently fifth, behind Melky Cabrera (.346), Andrew McCutchen (.336) and Buster Posey (.332).

Melky Cabrera is serving a 50 game suspension and will fall one At-Bat short of qualifying for the MLB Batting Title, thus making Miggy's chances that much better. Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle are the only players in history to take home the MLB Triple Crown. Mantle was the last player to accomplish the feat, back in 1956.

1980 USA Mens Olympic Hockey Team Autograph Signing November 2013

On Saturday November 16th, eighteen members of the "Miracle on Ice" 1980 USA Men's Hockey Teamwill be signing autographs at the Minneapolis Sports Collectible Convention inside the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.

The 1980 United States Mens Olympic Hockey Team is one of the most remembered sports teams in the history of the United States. With only one player returning from the 1976 Olympic team, the 1980 team consisted of a bunch of college kids that began playing together during the summer of 1979. Led by coach Herb Brooks, the team went 4–0–1 during group play (Czechoslovakia 7-2, Norway 5–1, Romania 7–2, West Germany 4–2 and Sweden 2-2) and advanced to the medal round. The Soviet Union team destroyed the competition during group play (Japan 16–0, Netherlands 17–4, Poland 8–1, Finland 4–2, and Canada 6–4). This stage for a dramatic standoff between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The heavily favored Soviets had dominated the world for decades. The National Team won six of the previous seven Olympic Gold Medals and won several gold medals at the World Hockey Championships. After trailing the entire game, the United States tied the game at three early in the final period before taking a 4-3 lead after a goal from captain, Michael Eruzione with about 10 minutes left. The Soviets launched a furious attack but were unable to score. As the final seconds ticked away, announcer Al Michaels famously shouted "Eleven seconds, you've got ten seconds, the countdown going on right now! Morrow, up to Silk. Five seconds left in the game. Do you believe in miracles?! YES!" The win is recognized as one of the greatest upset in the history American sports. After the game, the U.S. still needed to defeat Finland to capture the gold. They went on to beat the Fins 4-2.
