USADA Gives Lance Armstrong Lifetime Ban and Disqualifies All Wins From August 1998 to Current

The USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) has released a statement stating that they have officially given cyclist Lance Armstrong a lifetime ban from competitive cycling and has disqualified ALL of his victories from August 1, 1998 through current. The decision comes after Armstrong decided not to continue to fight the charges that were brought against him years ago in the involvement in the USPS Cycling Team Doping Conspiracy. Here is the official press release.

There have been several reports stating that the USDA has stripped him of his seven Tour De France wins, however, the Tour is an international event that is run by the Amaury Sport Organisation which is a French media group that hosts several cycling events all around the world.

So, does the USADA really have the authority to strip him of international wins or would that have to come from the ASO?

Is Reds Minor Leaguer Billy Hamilton The Next Great Base Stealer?

Cincinnati Reds minor leaguer, Billy Hamilton made history yesterday when he stole his 144th, 145th, 146th and 147th bases of the season, breaking Vince Coleman's record minor league record of 145, set back in 1983. He started the year out in A-Ball with the Bakersfield Blaze (104 SB in 82 Games) and broke the record in AA-Ball as a member of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (43 SB in 39 Games).

It's a little early to start making comparisons to Rickey Henderson or this Billy Hamilton, but he is considered to be the Reds Top Prospect of 2012. You can be certain they will be looking at this bolt of lightning when it comes to their post season roster.

Felix Hernandez Throws Perfect Game Against the Tampa Bay Rays

For the third time this season, a MLB pitcher has thrown a perfect game. Today's pitching gem belongs to Seattle Mariners ace pitcher, Felix Hernandez. The first two games belong to Phil Humber and Matt Cain.

Hernandez struck out 12 batters en route to a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. This was the first no-hitter or perfect game of Felix's career. At just 26 years old, he has a pretty good shot at becoming the first MLB pitcher to throw two perfect games.

Check out the play-by-play.

Over all, this was the forth no-hitter the Mariners have been apart of this season. Kevin Millwood and five other pitchers combined to throw a no-no earlier this season and the M's were on the losing end of Humber's perfect game.

I'm a big Tampa Bay Rays fan and I really don't know what to think anymore. We've only been around since 1998 and we have five no-hitters thrown against us; three of them being perfect games. Is the pitching really that great or is our .247 Team Batting Average over the last four years really that bad? If that wasn't bad enough, check out the box score and see who caught this game for Hernandez. That's right, it's former Rays catcher, John Jaso.

For what it is worth, the last time we had a no-no thrown against us, Matt Garza followed up with his own no-no 31 days later. Hopefully history can repeat itself when we face the Yankees on September 16th.

Dwight Howard Traded to the Los Angeles LA Lakers? Deal Could be Finalized by Tomorrow.

It's (almost) finally over. ESPN has reported that the Orlando Magic have agreed to a four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal is pending approval from the NBA.

If the deal goes through, the Orlando Magic will part ways with the All-Star center and in return, would get Arron Affalo and Al Harrington from the Denver Nuggets along with Moe Harkless from the Philadelphia 76ers. They would also get future 1st round draft picks from the Lakers, Nuggets and Sixers.

Visit ESPN.com for the whole story.

Tampa Bay Rays Stadium Proposal: 2012 Edition Carrillon

There was a lot of baseball buzz going around the Tampa Bay Area today. It wasn't for the Rays 7-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays (completing a three-game sweep), is was from real estate developer, Darryl LeClair, who wants to put a new Rays Ballpark in the Carillon area of St. Petersburg.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, a formal plan has not been submitted to the city at this point. Mr. LeClair has simply requested an audience to hear his idea which will be followed up with a formal proposal in the near future.

The proposed site is a vacant 12 acre lot located off of Ulmerton Avenue. It's just south of Publix and Matt Gieger's Courtside Grille. It's barely big enough to hold something like a Major League Baseball Stadium, so there most likely would have to be some reconstruction of the immediate surrounding area, but the move would bring the stadium in much closer proximity to Tampa and Clearwater, while still staying within the St. Petersburg city limits.

According to a 2009 Tampa Bay Rays study, Carillon is about a 30 minute drive for 1.22 million Tampa Bay households, which is the most of any of the previously considered sites (like Tropicana Field, downtown Tampa and the Florida State Fairgrounds). A Rays Sell-Out needs about 12,000 parking spaces. Carillon currently has about 19,000.

I'm a HUGE RAYS FAN and don't want to speculate too much about what the plans are. I can't wait to see this propsal!

2012 Fantasy Football Sleepers

Normally, I like to wait until the last week of the pre-season to have my Fantasy Football Draft, but this year, everyone in my league is pushing to have it much earlier. Like this Saturday. I'll start playing my violin once the first star goes down or looses his starting position come week 3 or 4 of the pre-season. But as commissioner of Pretend Football, I give the people what they want.

With that being said, I guess I should go ahead and send out my Fantasy Football Sleeper Picks for 2012. For me, a "sleeper" isn't necessarily someone that have never heard of before. A sleeper is simply a player that should be available in the late rounds, and could end up performing much better than expected. I'll probably revise this list once the final cuts are made at the end of pre-season. So after minutes and minutes of preparation, here's the list.

Quarterbacks

Alex Smith - San Francisco 49ers
How can you not like Alex Smith? It's been a long, long, long road for him in the NFL. Last year, was his "Coming Out Party" in which he threw 3,100 yards (19th in the league) and 17 touchdowns (17th in the NFL). With QBs who routinely throw for over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns, Smith's 2011 numbers aren't all that impressive. What is impressive is if you watched post/ pre-game interviews with him last year, none of that mattered. All he cared about was winning, and that's what the Niners did. He was sacked a league high 44 times last year, yet only threw 5 Ints (lowest among all NFL starters). He plays smart football and should be much more comfortable in the pocket this year. I'm predicting him to be a Top-10 NFL QB.

Christian Ponder - Minnesota Vikings
He's the #1 QB in Minnesota and he's got plenty of weapons. He could be a solid #2 QB option in pretend football.

Kevin Kolb - Arizona Cardinals
I picked him as a sleeper last year as well. It would have paid off if he had not been injured half way through the season. He threw for almost 2,000 yards in just over 8 games last year. Look for Kolb to be the starter again in 2012.

Jake Locker - Tennessee Titans
He played well as a backup in 2011. Look for Titans to name this 2011 #8 overall draft pick as the starter at some point this year. If he's not the starter come Game 1, you might want to just keep an eye on him and pick him up as a Free Agent. If he plays sparingly during the pre-season (that means they don't want him to get hurt), and is then named the starter, grab him.

Runningbacks

Darren Sproles - New Orleans Saints
Over 1,300 combined rushing and receiving yards in 2011. One of Brees' favorite targets (86 catches). Still overlooked in many leagues.

Roy Helu - Washington Redskins
Started 5 games in 2011. Had over 100 rushing yards in three of those games. Had over 100 receiving yards in one game. Should see more opportunities in 2012. Mike Shanahan is his coach.

Willis McGahee - Denver Broncos
After three straight seasons of diminished production, McGahee quietly rushed for 1,200 yards in 2011. If it weren't for Tebowmania, he would have been the big story in Denver last year. A guy who rushes for 1,200 yards is not your typical sleeper, but I'm willing to bet he'll be passed on over and over again and will be available in mid-late rounds.

Reggie Bush - Miami Dolphins
How many of you used your first or second round draft picks to take Bush? After 5 season with the Saints and pretty much left off of everyone's in FFL team, Bush posted his first 1,000 yards rushing season in 2011 with the Dolphins. He also had almost 300 receiving yards. He should be the featured back again in 2012.

Wide Receivers

Michael Crabtree - San Francisco 49ers
Here are Micheal's numbers since he got into the NFL. 625 Rec Yards in 2009. 741 Yards in 2010. 874 Yards in 2011. The 49ers have a much improved quarterback in Alex Smith. Last year was kind of his coming out party. Look for Smith to be more relaxed in 2012, creating more opportunities for Crabtree.

Mike Williams - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
He simply made some "Sick Catches" as a rookie in 2010. The entire team fell off the wagon in 2011. New Coach, Greg Schiano seems like a no-nonsense kind of guy who will push his players.

Dexter McCluster - Kansas City Chiefs
In many leagues, you can play him as either a RB or a WR. He had 46 receptions, 300 receiving yards to go along with 500 rushing yards last year. Great pick up for Point-Per Reception leagues.

Tight End

Up until last year, I still believed in Santa Claus, thought that Uranus was a planet and believed there was NO SUCH THING AS A SLEEPER TIGHT END. Then these two guys, Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski, showed up and destroyed my entire belief system. So this year, I'm going with Lance Kendricks of the St. Louis Rams. Hey, why not?

Kickers

Dan Carpenter - Miami Dolphins
He had six double-digit games in 2011. ESPN has him ranked #18. Don't stretch to get him, but he is certainly underrated.

Brandon Steiner Autographed New Book: You Gotta Have Balls

"If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."
- Yogi Berra, 10x World Series Champion.

If you could take that famous Yogi-ism and personify it, you would come up with Steiner Sports CEO and founder, Brandon Steiner.

It will surely be a valuable reference for anyone who is thinking about starting their own business. It's scheduled to be released on September 19, 2012, but if you PRE-ORDER with in the next two weeks, Mr. Steiner will autograph your book for FREE.

Will Egraphs Replace Original Autographs?

We ALL knew this day was coming. With the rise of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, digital signatures on virtually everything you sign, it was only a matter of time before the Egraph would come along.

What is an Egraph?

According to egraphs.com, "An egraph is a shared moment between you and your favorite star. It is immortalized forever with a beautiful high resolution photograph, hand written note, autograph and personalized voice message..."

Essentially, you go to the site, pick an image and write a note to the player. Using Ipad technology, the player records an audio message for you and digitally signs and writes on the image you selected. You receive an email linking your to the photo. Pricing starts at $50.00.

Pros: Egraphs does provide you a pretty unique personal interaction with players. If you've ever Tweeted or emailed a famous athlete, and they responded back to you, it's pretty exciting. The recorded voice is a pretty good idea. That's something you probably would not be able to get, even if you met them in person.

Cons: It's not an "original" autograph. Autographs are like works of art and autograph collectors want the real deal. They want to know that the athlete physically held the item in his hands and signed it using real ink.

In a nutshell, while egraphs does provide a pretty unique product, I don't think they will replace "original" autographs anytime soon.
