How to get John Travolta's Autograph for FREE!

Most people don't know this but at one time, I starred in a major motion picture along side John Travolta! I wasn't the main character in The Punisher, but I did have a HUGE part! That's right, I was rubbing elbows with Hollywood Movie stars John Travolta, Thomas Jane, Rebecca Romijn and Will Patton!

Okay, I wasn't exactly rubbing elbows, but I was in Howard Saint's nightclub. Okay, I didn't exactly "make the final cut," but (technically) I am on the DVD. Just look under the deleted scenes section and look for the guy in the top right hand corner of the screen wearing a beige or tan long sleeved shirt. That's me! Everyone else is wearing black, so I stick out like a sore thumb. Originally, I was wearing a suit, which happened to be the same color that Travolta was wearing. The director did not want him to take any of my star-power, so he asked me to change shirts. I may have gotten the story a little mixed up, but it was so long ago, it's hard to remember.

Anywho, if you want to get John Travolta's autograph for FREE, just go to his website, click on "FANS" and follow the instructions.

Lamar Odom Traded Back to Los Angeles - As a Clipper

That's right. After one rather forgetable season with the Dallas Mavericks (he only started four games), Lamar Odom is going back to his Los Angeles roots. All the way back to 1999 - 2003, when he was an LA Clipper.

The deal went down as part of a four-team trade involving the Mavericks, Clippers, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets. Check out the trade details.

The Clippers made headlines last off-season when the were able to land 5x All-Star, Chris Paul in a controversial trade just before the 2011-2012 NBA Season started. They finished the season with the best record in team history at 40-26.

2012 Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees - Joe Sakic, Adam Oates, Mats Sundin and Pavel Bure

Earlier today, the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced the 2012 Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees. As expected, Joe Sakic, Adam Oates, Mats Sundin and Pavel Bure were elected to the Hall. My congratulations goes out to these players for outstanding careers.

As with every other Hall of Fame Class, there were a couple snubs. First-year eligible payers, Brendan Shanahan (8x NHL All-Star; 3x Stanley Cup Champion) and Jeremy Roenick (9x NHL All-Star) did not make the cut. Both Shanahan and Roenick should make in the near couple years. To Jeremy's credit, he is already a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

While the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby Contest are the two main events, there are plenty of other events going on throughout the entire weekend.

Miami Heat 2012 NBA Champions. Defeat OKC Thunder in Five Games

The Miami Heat are the 2012 NBA Champions. They have beaten the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games. Lebron James started things off tonight with some thunder of his own when he slam dunked the first two points of Game 5, sending the Miami Heat crowd into a frenzy. That was the beginning of the end as the Heat never looked back. The team played outstanding basketball throughout the entire game.

The Heat took a 59-49 lead into the locker room to end the first half. After halftime, the Thunder came out shooting, making two quick baskets to make it a five point game. That's when the Heat took off. They scored 36 points in the third quarter versus the Thunder's 22, taking a 95-71 lead into the fourth quarter. They kept things going throughout the fourth quarter en route to a final score of 121-106. Lebron James was named Finals MVP.

Congratulations to Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Mike Miller, Juwan Howard, Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier and the rest of the team!

A little bit of Fab-Five Trivia - With the win, Juwan Howard not only gets his first NBA Championship, but he is also the one and only member of the University of Michigan's Fab-Five to ever win an NBA Title. Thanks to George Richards who pointed that out.

NY Mets R.A. Dickey Pitches Consecutive 1-Hitters

Last night, New York NY Mets starting pitcher, R.A. Dickey pitched his second consecutive 1-Hitter of the season as the Mets shutout the Baltimore Orioles 5-0. The knuckleballer carried the No-Hitter into the fifth inning, before being broken up by Wilson Benemit with a single. Dickey finished the game with 13 strikeouts and only two bases-on-balls.

Box Score

He threw a 1-Hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays in previous start (Wednesday, June 13th) that was so close, the Mets filed an appeal to try and reverse the only hit of the game. This was the first time since 1945 that a MLB pitcher has thrown consecutive 1-Hitters.

New nickname for R.A. Dickey - "The One-Hit Monster."

Hank Aaron Autograph Signing Atlanta Braves

On Sunday July 15th, Collectors Showcase of America will host a public autograph signing for Atlanta Braves Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder, Hank Aaron. The signing will take place at the Show at Chantilly in Chantilly, Virginia.

Hank Aaron played 21 MLB seasons with the Milwaukee/ Atlanta Braves and finished his last two with the Milwaukee Brewers. He is virtually unmatched when it comes to power, average, consistency and longevity. Hank was a 2x Batting Champion, 4x Homerun Champion, 4x RBI Champion, 2x Hits Leader, 4x Doubles Leader, 3x Runs Leader and led the American League in total bases eight times. He batted over .300 in 14 different seasons, hit over 40 homeruns seven times and had 11 100 RBI seasons. In 1957, he won his only World Series Championship as the Milwaukee Braves defeated the New York Yankees 4-3. Hank belted three homeruns, knocked in seven RBI and batted .393. On April 8, 1974, Hank Aaron became major league baseball's All-Time Career Homerun leader when hit hit #714 off of Dodgers pitcher, Al Downing. It's been almost 40 years since his retirement and he still owns the MLB record for total bases (6,856), extra-base hits (1,477) and consecutive seasons with 150 or more hits (17). He is third on MLB's All-Time Hits list (3,771), second in homeruns (755) and first in RBI (2,297). He is third in Games Played (3,298) and fourth in Runs Scored (2,174 tied with Babe Ruth). He is the only player in MLB history with over 700 homeruns and 3,000 hits. When it comes to "The Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time," it's pretty hard to argue against Hammerin' Hank Aaron.

Location/ Address:

Dulles Expo and Conference Center

Chantilly, VA 20153

Matt Cain Tosses 22nd Perfect Game in MLB History

San Francisco Giants pitcher, Matt Cain pitched perhaps one of the "most perfect" Perfect Games in MLB history last night as the Giants beat the Houston Astros 10-0. He did in front of 42,298 Giants fans at the home field of AT&T Park.

Cain struck out 14 batters, which tied Sandy Koufax for the most strike outs in a perfect game. He also helped his own cause by going 1 for 3 at the plate, and laying down a sacrifice bunt in the second to advance Joaquin Arias to third. Arias scored one batter later. Cain singled in the fifth inning and scored on Gregor Blanco's homerun.

This was the 1st No-Hitter or Perfect Game of Cain's career, the 14th No-Hitter in San Francisco/ New York Giants history, the 1st Perfect Game in Giants history and the 5th No-Hitter of the 2012 MLB Season. The 2x MLB All-Star just became the lead candidate for the 2012 National League Cy Young Award. Congratulations to Matt Cain.

Check out the play-by-play.

List of NHL Stanley Cup Champions that Won Less than Half their Regular Season Games

I have to admit that I'm not the world's biggest hockey fan. I love the Tampa Bay Lightning, but as soon as they were out of the playoff hunt, I tuned out hockey and into baseball. However, I did start to watch the Stanley Cup Finals between the New Jersey NJ Devils and Los Angeles LA Kings. I thought it was pretty cool that the Kings became the first eighth seeded team to win the Finals. When I looked at their final regular season record of 40-27-15 I thought, "Hey, they played 82 games and only one 40 of them? This has got to be the first time an NHL team has won the Stanley Cup Finals while winning less than half their games. Right?" WRONG!!

So I'm not the biggest hockey fan in the world, but I was a History major in college, so I decided to do a little research. Here's what I found:

The Stanley Cup Trophy originated in the late 1800's. The National Hockey League was founded in 1917 and after 10 years of completing with other hockey leagues, the NHL took over all the rights to the Cup in 1927. Since that time, there have been actually been 18 NHL teams that have won the Stanley Cup, despite winning less that half their games. Two teams even had losing records. So here they are, "The Worst of the Best."

2011 - 2012 Los Angeles LA Kings      40-27-15     95 Points  (82 Games)

1996 - 1997 Detroit Red Wings            38-26-18     94 Points  (82 Games)

1994 - 1995 New Jersey Devils            22-18-8       52 Points  (48 Games)

1991 - 1992 Pittsburgh Penguins           39-32-9       87 Points  (80 Games)

1989 - 1990 Edmonton Oilers              38-28-14      90 Points  (80 Games)

1979 - 1980 New York Islanders         39-28-13      91 Points  (80 Games)

1966 - 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs        32-27-11      75 Points  (70 games)

1963 - 1964 Toronto Maple Leafs        33-25-12      78 Points  (70 Games)

1960 - 1961 Chicago Black Hawks      29-24-17      75 Points   (70 games)

1952 - 1953 Montreal Canadiens         28-23-19       75 Points   (70 Games)

1948 - 1949 Toronto Maple Leafs       22-25-13       57 Points   (60 Games)

1944 - 1945 Toronto Maple Leafs       24-22-4         52 Points   (50 Games)

1937 - 1938 Chicago Blackhawks       14-25-9          37 Points  (48 Games)

1933 - 1934 Chicago Blackhawks       20-17-11        51 Points  (48 Games)

1932 - 1933 New York NY Rangers   23-17-8          54 Points  (48 Games)

1931-1932 Toronto Maple Leafs         23-18-7          53 Points  (48 Games)

1929 - 1930 Montreal Canadiens         21-14-9          51 Points  (44 Games)

1927 - 1928 New York NY Rangers   19-16-9          47 Points  (44 Games)

Los Angeles LA Kings are 2012 Stanley Cup Champions

For the first time in franchise history, the LA Kings are Stanley Cup Champions. They beat the New Jersey Devils by a score of 6-1 in Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals to capture the title. LA Kings goaltender, Jonathan Quick was named the 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy Winner.

After wining the first three games of the Finals, the NJ Devils won Games 4 and 5 and appeared to be headed towards a historic comeback, however, Game 6 turned out to be a much different story. The Kings scored three goals within a 4 minute span of the 1st period, then added another goal in the second. It was 4-0 before New Jersey was able to get on the board at the end of the second period. The Kings added two more goals in the third period to win the game and the series.

The 2011/ 2012 LA Kings the first eighth seeded team to win the Stanley Cup. They finished the regular season winning 40 out of 83 regular season games, thus adding their name to the shortlist of NHL teams that have won the Stanley Cup, while winning less than half their regular season games.

Seattle Mariners Use Six Pitchers in No-Hitter Against Dodgers

Kevin Millwood started things off and threw six no-hit innings before injuring his groin. The Seattle Mariners bullpen took things from there. Charlie Furbush came in at the top of the seventh, got two outs and was replaced by rookie Stephen Pryor who struck out Juan Rivera to end the seventh. Pryor walked two to start the eighth before being replaced by Lucas Luetge who got one out, before being replaced by Brandon League to finish off the eighth. Tom Wilhelmsem came in at the top of the ninth to record the final three outs.

The Mariners won the game 1-0. They scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh so Pryor, who struck out one and walked two picked up the win, which happened to be his first Major League win.
