Last night, during Game 1 of the 2012 ALCS the New York Yankees lost their team captain, Derek Jeter for the rest of the season. It happened in the top of the 12th inning as Detroit Tigers' Jhonny Peralta hit a grounder towards Jeter's left. He attempted to field it, but it was clear something was wrong when he planted his left foot. Jeter was unable to walk on his and was carried off the field by two Yankees coaches.
The Yankees will most likely turn to Jason Nix and/ or Eduardo Nunez to replace Jeter at shortstop. He's expected to be out at least three months, which would be just a few weeks before spring training.
