On of the most important figures in NFL history has passed away. Steve Sabol was the guy who brought you the beauty of professional football through NFL Films.
When I was a kid, I would come home after school and immediately turned on his show. I can't count the number of times I watched Joe Montana lead the 49ers down the field for a touchdown during the final seconds of Super Bowl XXIII. Or watched Franco Harris' Immaculate Reception against the Oakland Raiders during the 1972 playoffs. Or the New York NY Giants winning Super Bowl XXV by just one point.
If you think about it, where would all those great moments be if it weren't for Steve Sabol? Sure, millions of people watched those great moments, but it takes someone truly special to really grasp just how great a moment, a game or a player is.
He turned football's best games into historic moments. He took the game's best players and turned them into legends. He was a master story teller and film producer. There will never be anyone like him.
