With all the talk about the NFL's replacement referees, has anyone noticed that Miguel Cabrera is "this close" to winning the American League Triple Crown? With just six games left, he leads the American League in Batting Average (.331), RBI (133) and is tied with Josh Hamilton with 42 homeruns. His current pace would make him the first player in 45 years and 14th player in MLB history to win the NL or AL triple crown.
With that being said, he also has a very good chance of winning the MLB Triple Crown as well. His RBI and homerun totals are tops in all the majors. His .331 batting average is currently fifth, behind Melky Cabrera (.346), Andrew McCutchen (.336) and Buster Posey (.332).
Melky Cabrera is serving a 50 game suspension and will fall one At-Bat short of qualifying for the MLB Batting Title, thus making Miggy's chances that much better. Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle are the only players in history to take home the MLB Triple Crown. Mantle was the last player to accomplish the feat, back in 1956.
