After 11 1/2 seasons and 2,533 career hits with the Seattle Mariners, Ichiro Suzuki has been traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for a couple of minor league players. Ichiro, who turns 39 in October, should finish this season with about 2,600 hits and 450 stolen bases.
If Ichiro puts together just a few more good seasons, he has a pretty good shot at joining Paul Molitor, Honus Wagner, Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb, Lou Brock and Rickey Henderson as the only MLB players with 3,000 hits and 500 stolen bases. Not bad for a player whose MLB debut was at 27 years of age.
