Los Angeles LA Kings are 2012 Stanley Cup Champions

For the first time in franchise history, the LA Kings are Stanley Cup Champions. They beat the New Jersey Devils by a score of 6-1 in Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals to capture the title. LA Kings goaltender, Jonathan Quick was named the 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy Winner.

After wining the first three games of the Finals, the NJ Devils won Games 4 and 5 and appeared to be headed towards a historic comeback, however, Game 6 turned out to be a much different story. The Kings scored three goals within a 4 minute span of the 1st period, then added another goal in the second. It was 4-0 before New Jersey was able to get on the board at the end of the second period. The Kings added two more goals in the third period to win the game and the series.

The 2011/ 2012 LA Kings the first eighth seeded team to win the Stanley Cup. They finished the regular season winning 40 out of 83 regular season games, thus adding their name to the shortlist of NHL teams that have won the Stanley Cup, while winning less than half their regular season games.
