Kyrie Irving is 2011-2012 NBA Rookie of the Year

ESPN has reported that Cleveland Cavaliers guard, Kyrie Irving will be named the 2011-2012 NBA Rookie of the Year. He averaged 18.5 ppg, 5.4 apg and 3.8 rpg during his rookie season. An official announcement is scheduled for Tuesday.

Prior to the NBA, an injury to his right foot put him in a cast for most of his freshman year at Duke. Despite playing only 11 games for the Blue Devils, Irving was to #1 Overall Pick of the 2011 NBA Draft at just 19 years old.

This marks the second time a Cleveland Cavalier has won NBA Rookie of the Year Award (Lebron James, 2003-2004) and the 19th time the #1 Overall Draft Pick won the award.
