On Saturday, March 7, 2015, GT Sports Marketing will host a public autograph signing for Stanford Cardinal 1970 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and Oakland/ LA Raiders 2x Super Bowl Champion, Jim Plunkett. The signing is part of the 2015 GTSM Santa Clara Sports Card Show and will be held inside the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.
Jim Plunkett was the 1970 Heisman Trophy winner and the first overall pick of the 1971 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. The Pats record improved from 2-12 in 1970 to 6-8 in 1971. He spent his first five seasons in New England, before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 1976. He joined the Oakland Raiders as their backup quarterback in 1978 and did not play a single down. In 1980, Plunkett became the Raiders starting QB when Dan Pastorini went down with a broken leg early in the season. He guided the Raiders to the AFC West Division Title and to a win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XV. Plunkett was named SB XV MVP. History would repeat itself just three years later, when the Raiders starting QB was injured and Plunkett was named the starter early in the season. He took the team to another AFC West Divison Title and a win over the Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII.
