Leon Lett Finds Redemption for 1993 Thanksgiving Day Classic

On Thanksgiving Day in 1993, Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle, Leon Lett committed one of the most famous blunders in NFL history, but in case you forgot, here goes. With just seconds to go, the Cowboys led the Miami Dolphins 14-13 as the Dolphins attempted a 41 yard field goal that was blocked at the line of scrimmage. While the rest of the Cowboys were celebrating a victory, Leon decided to try and pick up the the ball. He ended up slipping on the slow, touching the ball, which was then recovered by the Dolphins. The Dolphins then kicked a field goal to win the game 16-14 as time expired. Had he just let the ball untouched, Miami would not have been able to pick up the ball and the Cowboys would have won! Luckily, the game ended up having no bearing on the final standings as the Cowboys still won the Super Bowl that year.

Leon's had to live with that blunder (as well as the other one) for almost 20 years now, but he's finally come to terms with it. Check out this video, I mean Snickers Commercial about his road to redemption. The whole things a big spoof, but it's pretty funny. I was able to "Lett it go."

Lessons learned:

1) Never play literally hungry. (Don't fill up on Snickers either. Just not a good idea)
2) Never play football or date anyone named Steve, The Bulgarian Towngirl.

Dan Wheldon dies from accident at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

ESPN has reported that Indy Car Champion Dan Wheldon has died from injuries he sustained in a horrific 15 car accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 16, 2011. The St. Petersburg, FL resident was the winner of the 2005 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as well as a two time Indianapolis 500 Champion (2005 & 2011). He was 33 years old. May he rest in peace.

The Associated Press reports that the NFL has named Arizona as host of the Super Bowl XLIX, in 2015. They along with Tampa were the only two finalists. Tampa has hosted four Super Bowls; 1984, 1991, 2001 and 2009 while Arizona has hosted games in 1996 and 2008.

Oakland Raiders Owner Al Davis Dead at 82 - ABC News

One of the most important figures in NFL history, Al Davis, has passed away. He was 82. The Hall of Fame Oakland Raiders owner with the "Just win bady!" motto was no stranger to the public eye. He kept his head coaches on a short leash and even called his own plays at times. He was a fierce competitor who was not afraid to take chances and ruffle feathers. He was the first NFL owner to hire a Latino head coach, Tom Flores, and African American head coach, Art Shell. His commitment to excellence kept the Raiders in contention for decades and even won three Super Bowls. RIP Al.

Top 6 Most Dramatic Home Runs in MLB History

1) Bill Mazerowski Wins the 1960 World Series - The New York Yankees rallied in the top of the ninth to tie the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at nine runs each. Mazerowski stepped up in the bottom of the ninth and belted a solo shot over the left field fence. His heroic home run is still the only walk off home run to decide a Game 7 of a World Series.

2) Bobby Thompson "The shot heard round the world!" - The 1951 New York Giants trailed the Brooklyn Dodgers by as many as 13 1/2 games in August, but the ended the season winning 50 of their last 62 games, forcing a three game play off against the Dodgers. In the bottom of the ninth, in the third final game, the Giants trailed the Dodgers 4 -2, when Thompson hit a three run shot to win the game and pennant, completing on of the biggest comebacks in MLB history.

3) Dan Johnson Saves the Tampa Bay Rays 2011 Season - The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays entered the final game of the 2011 regular season with identical records of 90-71. The Red Sox were playing in Baltimore against the Orioles (68-93), while the Rays were facing the New York Yankees (97-64). By the middle of the eighth inning, the Rays were facing a 7-0 deficit, while the Red Sox were in the middle of a rain delay, but were holding on to a 3-2 lead. The Rays scored six runs that inning, including a three-run home run by Evan Longoria, to make the score 7-6. In the bottom of the ninth, in the last game of the 2011 season, with two outs and two strikes, Dan Johnson (whose batting average was .108 up to that point in the season) hit a solo home run that hit the right field foul pole at Tropicana Field to send the game into extra innings. This was his second home run all year.

4) Evan Longoria Sends Rays into post season, as the Boston Red Sox complete the biggest September collapse in MLB History - After Dan Johnson's season saving home run, the game remained tied until the bottom of the 12th inning, when Longoria stepped back up to the plate. Just after midnight on the morning of September 30, 20011, the score board at Tropicana Field showed that the Baltimore Orioles had comeback to beat the Red Sox 4-3 on a walk off hit in their final at-bat. Moments later, Longoria hit a solo home run that barely cleared the left field fence. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this was only the third time in the 111 year history of the New York Yankees that a team came back to beat them after being down by seven runs, in the eighth inning, and the first since 1953. The hit earned the Rays the American League Wild Card and eliminated the Red Sox, who held a 9 game lead over the Rays on September 3rd, but lost 20 of their final 27 games, completing perhaps the worse collapse in MLB history.

5) Joe Carter Wins 1993 World Series - The Toronto Blue Jays entered Game 6 of the 1993 World Series with a 3 games to 2 advantage over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies scored five runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Joe Carter made sure there would not be a Game 7, as he hit a three run home to win the game and the series for Toronto. This was the second time that a World Series was won on a home run. Mazerowski's was the first.

6) Kirk Gibson Wins Game 1 of 1988 World Series - Kirk Gibson was the 1988 National League MVP, but with a swollen knee and a pulled hamstring, he wasn't in the starting line up or even in the dugout for the first game of the World Series. With two outs and a runner on first, Dodger manager, Tommy Lasorda summoned Gibson to pinch hit for Dave Anderson. Gibson delivered as he hit a two out, 3-2 pitch into the right field stands at Dodger Stadium and famously "pumped his fists" as he rounded the bases. It turned out to be Kirk's only at-bat the entire series, as the Dodgers beat the Oakland A's four games to one.
