Cal Ripken Jr was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles out of Aberdeen High School (Aberdeen, Maryland) during the second round of the 1978 Amateur Baseball Draft. He played his entire 21 year MLB career with the Baltimore Orioles and played on 19 MLB All-Star teams. He was also a 2x American League MVP, World Series Champion (1983), 1982 American League Rookie of the Year, 8x SIlver Slugger and 2x Gold Glove Award winner. On May 30, 1982 Ripken took the field at third base against the Toronto Blue Jays and started on of the most admired streaks in the history of professional sports. On September 5, 1995, Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 consecutive games played. He extended the streak by 502 games before sitting out a game against the New York Yankees on September 20, 1998. During the streak, Ripken also set the MLB record for most consecutive innings played at 8,243. When he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Ripken received 98.53% of the BBWAA votes. Only Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan had a higher percentage of HOF votes.
